I was up early, and packed ready to go…and as I said my farewells to Ants and Maggie…tick, tick, tick…I had flattened the battery on ‘Wally’ and she wasn’t going anywhere…after a bit of scrabbling round Michael next door got another neighbour Pearse to come with his van and big jump leads…so with one turn of the engine vroom vroom…we were ready to go, and after collecting my stuff together again we were off, firstly inspecting the impressions we’d left in the field and I said farewell to Ballycong,Attymass and Ballina…what a great few weeks, I’m really glad I came, and you all really welcomed us all…Thank You..I will be back !
I then drove through the many narrow and quiet lanes, through Castlebar,Newport and Mallarraney and out onto Achill Island, and into the Atlantic.. I booked in at Keel sandbanks campsite, bordering the wild coastline, with the winds whipping in from the ocean, and surfers out in the bay.. I managed to get a spot right at the front of the site and sat there for lunch whilst the wind rocked ‘Wally’.. and then had a nice long walk, and mooch around, deciding that it was rather chilly for ‘surf lessons’, and I’d missed them for the day..maybe tomorrow ?
The bay stretches out into the Atlantic, around a number of small islands, with the waves crashing into their sides and birds wheeling up into the sky.. with the ‘fresh’ wind blowing me along as I walked up the hill and looking down towards the next village Dooargh .. this location must be spectacular in blue skies and warm winds…although not today !
I’ve come here, hoping for clear skies in the night, as there is a meteor shower expected during the night..whether I’ll see any of it, is a good question ?
I’ll let you know tomorrow…maybe… Goodnight !
