Tuesday saw us spruced up and down to the Fr Peyton Centre, for mass and Attymass reunion lunch..followed by music and dancing !
After mass there was an unexpected presentation, when the ‘Gathering Committee’ formed up, and Lawrence and Anthony were presented with certificates of Thanks and Mayo crystal vases, then we all sat down to lunch, joined by relatives and friends… and then an afternoon of relaxing ,reading the papers (with again surprises in store !) and just as we were all settling for an early night Sean arrived home with his brother in law Sean and wife Mary, and his newly won trophy for coming 3rd in the Golf earlier in the day …Ballycong had never seen the likes of it !!
Wednesday morning I went into Ballina to view the Jackie Clarke collection, lots of historical memorabilia collected by a Ballina man over his lifetime, and now forming the basis of a museum… very impressive ,although the ‘history’ it tells is ,to me, rather biased, strongly favouring the IRA and Nationalist views..interesting none the less, with a nice garden !
After joining Anthony,Maggie and Rebecca for lunch, we wandered back through Ballina, over the River Moy, where the fishermen were out in force, and the salmon were leaping out of the River as we watched .. then back home for a rest, and enjoying the cake I’d bought… before down to Ballina golf club, to see the final part of the Golf tournament between the Manchester Mayo gathering team and Ballina.. where Sean was just finishing his round…
We had a meal whilst we waited for the presentations, and then back to The An Sionnach Rua pub to see some of their ‘talent night’ – once again the pub was packed, with lots of differing performer strutting their stuff … we didn’t stop out too late though, managing to get home for 1 !
So, another starry nights Goodnight !
