I’d driven from Blackpool, up into Scotland, firstly across to Dumfries and Galloway… then a change of plan, and across to Edinburgh http://www.visitscotland.com/destinations-maps/edinburgh-lothians/ , to meet up with a Canadian friend I’d met on the Camino last year – Liesje… who I managed to surprise on the Friday morning outside the main Art Gallery, and after a quick coffee we were off on a self-guided tour of Edinburgh’s royal sites, churches and places of interest (me navigating…an experience !)
We wound our way along the Royal Mile ( I think several times ) up onto Calton Hill for extensive views over Edinburgh ‘old town’, until finally my reward…. a Tapas bar, serving some nice Spanish food…and wine ! Nice to catch up,wander round together..and go our separate ways !
Back to my out of town campsite, finishing off at a quiz in the bar, and collapsing for the night !
The following day, Saturday 17th ( a Special day to me –Susan’s birthday) I headed away from Edinburgh, firstly slightly south to the famous Roslyn Chapel http://www.rosslynchapel.com/ – it must be famous as it was quite expensive to get in – I didn’t !, but I did manage to have a good look around the outside of it, the nearby castle, and cemeteries… before I continued on my wanderings, and across to the Falkirk Wheel https://www.scottishcanals.co.uk/falkirk-wheel/, a rather unusual boat lift, that carried boats from the canal up to the river towering above, and back again… I had a good look round there, and headed off for the nearby ‘Kelpies’ statues http://www.thehelix.co.uk/things-to-do/the-kelpies/, which was so popular, all the car parks were full, and I couldn’t get very close…one for the future methinks…
I carried on then, further North, up through Perth, and along the infamous A9, passing various villages, before I headed off the road near Pitlochry and ended up… somewhere near to Loch Rannoch, and a peaceful night in the woods !A hectic couple of days, full of differing views, places and people !
