Wednesday 8th June - Up in to the Hills Again

Up early again, ready for a long days walk from Costamezzana to Sivissano, firstly having early breakfast at the bar, specially opened for the four of us, then we set off in glorious sunshine

the only problem with this.... It was hot!!
I could see the hills in the distance, not made any easier because of the fact I knew I'd be climbing up and over them in the next couple of days!!

We were soon in Medesano for a banana, cake and coffee stop, in what seemed a nice friendly little town... Even a lovely stained glass in the church:

Then leaving there we had to suddenly turn right up and over a steep hill, in the hot morning sunshine... Thirsty work!

Then down to Felegava along hot gravel tracks... and an early pizza lunch... Whilst there we met a chap en route home from Rome, having left home in South Tyrol Austria on 29 th January... Dragging all his kit behind him in an adapted golf cart (as he had a shoulder problem) very enlightening conversation!!

Then we went on a track alongside the River Taro to Fornovo, fortunately the streams we had to ford were relatively dry!!

Crossing the river Taro in Fornovo I came across a useful signpost, and views up the river to the hills!!

The cathedral was closed:

so we continued doing a steep climb up and out of Fornovo, heading for our night stop at Sivvisanno... A seemingly long way up steep mountain roads, not helped by the thunder and lightning storm, which meant also wearing my rain gear... It was like being in a sauna!!

At 4 pm we arrived at St Margarets hostel in an Old Benedictine monastery.... I was completely worn out!!

A 34 kms walk today, with lots of hot steep climbing... the beer was good though!!
Another early night!!
