Attacked in the Shower !

I was up bright and early this morning, for my ride into Gruissan for mass, little knowing what was to happen so soon into the day..

I went into the shower block, and had a nice hot shower, ready for the day ahead – then whilst drying myself, i suddenly felt something hard on my shoulder, and looking down saw a dark object, appearing to be a giant spider, sat digging in to my body – I instantly let out a yell, swiped it down from my shoulder, hearing whatever it was clatter to the floor, and disappear from my sight – wow ! that was a close shave, could have been injected with all sorts of poison I thought..so, I quickly dried off, and hesitatingly looked into the other shower cubicles, to see what had attacked me… and there it was , lying on the floor of the adjacent cubicle.. the culprit , captured, and laughing out so loud people must have thought me delirious…what a remarkable start to the day, will I survive the rest of it I wondered !

Then ,when I’d recovered I rode off for church, riding through the salt marshes,and canals, what a ride to church, not many will be having this sight this morning.. I was travelling along quite nicely, trying to beat the threatened showers, which I just managed, having stopped several times on the way, taking in the sights of Gruissan and it’s ancient castle up on the bluff above the church I was making for Notre Dame de l’Assumption  http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C3%89glise_Notre-Dame_de_l%27Assomption_%28Gruissan%29  I was just in time for ‘choir practice’ which was quite interesting, but helped me enjoy singing all the Hymns and responses in French,although unfortunately unlike other churches, they didn’t have the readings printed out, so I had to listen,translate..and try to understand all at the same time – not easy !

After mass I climbed the tower  , now in a ruined state, but still having great views all around from it, out over the town, and out across the salt marshes to sea , I had another ride around the windy town, and harbour area where they had speedboats parked, and stacked 3 high !

Then it was back to the campsite for lunch, and a quick visit to the nearby lake, where all the kite surfers were out performing stunts and jumps which were very impressive !

 A hot wind was blowing gustily now, so I settled down for an early dinner ( Steak BBQ) ready for an early start tomorrow- sightseeing in Narbonne
