What a Place for a ‘Stop over’ !

I’d picked a good day to leave the Narbonne area, firstly it was quite overcast, and sullen, so a good day to travel, and even better because I’d stayed for 7 days, I only had to pay for 6 ! and as, everyone knows, me being a pensioner without a bus pass, $16 extra money is better in my pocket than theirs…a bargain !

I was heading South and further East, again hoping to catch some good weather..I initially was heading for the Camargue, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Camargue as I knew I would be travelling through it,and thought I may stop, however as I got closer, and the weather still being overcast, I decided to keep going, and carry on towards the Cote D’Azur , however on trying to ‘re-program’ my TomTom device, I lost everything – couldn’t set a new destination, nor work out where I had been going – it was probably the overcast sky doing it, and so I carried on for a while…and promptly took a wrong turn heading in the wrong direction, which I found out about 30 miles later –when the sky cleared briefly and I managed to re-program it ,and she told me to turn around!

Consequently, although still heading further South I found myself travelling through the Camargue just after mid day, and the skies were clearing, and I decided to find somewhere to stay, and, thankfully I saw signs to my original destination St Maries de la Mer http://www.saintesmaries.com/en/ and decided to go and stay for a couple of days…what a good decision ! I got to my campsite http://www.camping-leclosdurhone.camargue.fr/ just as the office was opening for the afternoon – promptly jumping the queue !, and then having got myself settled had a quick look around..

The site was next to the sea, and beach, and about a mile out of the village, although a big site there was lots of space (and free Wi-Fi !)…the next couple of days were to be an eye opener ..

I went for a ride into the town, and was amazed…I was in the middle of the wild west ! –IMG_0690 Bull fighting rings,  horse rides on offer, cowboy boots and regalia for sale…and best of all I think I was in Las Vegas..IMG_0692 and a lot cheaper to get here !

and as I rode back to the campsite, IMG_0699there was a big flock of flamingo’s flying overhead, what an area, and I’d only just stopped on chance,almost..

IMG_0704So, I needed a cup of tea, and sat outside Wally in the evening sunshine, taking it easy , before heading out later, to dodge the Mosquito’s…and try and catch a famous Camargue sunset, which although pleasant, wasn’t as good as I’d hoped..
