We were all out of the hostel before 7 am, and to the bar around the corner for breakfast - paid for by the Parish, what a nice gesture... From people I suspect not very rich... Thank you!!
I set off along with Roberto, having said Goodbye again to Juliano who was meeting family in Massa, and off we headed from this marble producing area down towards the coast... Determined to finally see the sea!!
As we went down through the docks I could see in the yards either side of the road, great blocks of marble ready to be sent around the world - Carrera Marble!!
Then we continued through a pretty tatty area, until finally I was there... I had traversed the continent of Europe, from the English Channel, and now was at the Mediterranean Sea, and it's only taken me 2 months!!
I took the views in for a while... The port, the chunks of broken marble all along the front... And the sea crashing onto the shore in front of me!!
I then turned left (for Rome!!) and continued along the coast road, and beach front - although frequently you couldn't see much of the sea as the bars and restaurants had private beaches hiding the views!! Still, it was flat, and a pleasant enough day for a wander along a sea front!!
There were differing marble sculptures at the marina entrances
We stopped at a beach bar for coffee after 10,
before eventually reaching the beach area at Marina de Pietrasanta, where I was able to go 'paddling'... In my boots!!
Roberto went for a swim, whilst I cooled in a restaurant, then we had a light lunch, before heading up into Pietrasanta town itself, with lots of sculptures dotted all around the place
I managed to have a look around, whilst doing my shopping (for a change!) then rested in the small (and full) pilgrim hostel next to the Cathedral... Not bad to celebrate my continental traverse, and even the Queens 90th Birthday!!!
A nice easy day after yesterday's rain... And before another long day tomorrow!!
Well, well, well...It can't be long now, Joe. ETA?
