Sunday 19th June - Relaxing in the Tuscan Hills

A nice easy start to the day, after watching the sunrise at 615

and breakfast in the large (and empty) refectory

I headed out of San Miniato, through a narrow gated tunnel:

and off across quiet Sunday morning roads... Looking out across at the typical Tuscan landscape... After about an hour I was able to leave the roads, and start walking on gravel/ dirt paths... So much nicer on the feet!!
I wended my way up and down through fields of crops and vines, occasionally coming across a dilapidated farmhouse building, in such great isolation!!

A couple of hours walking, and looking back I could still see San Miniato up on the hills behind.

It was hot, but I managed to keep locating water fountains as I went, so was able to drink plenty..

Up through the old hamlets of Montasone and Castelfiorentino, travelling along the hot gravel

Just after 2 pm I arrived at Chianni - Ostello Sigerico, next to the church of Santa Maria, a lovely located church and hostel... I even spent an extra 8€ to get my own room!!

I had a nice afternoon nap, followed by a musical concert in the church, followed by dinner with other pilgrims...

A nice relaxing sort of day... Ready for the week ahead!
