We had a nice breakfast at 7 am with all the 'boys' all standing to pray together before they ate, and afterwards taking turns to say different prayers... A good start to the day.
By 8 am we'd left the community, instantly walking alongside the canals, with overgrown paths soon soaking my feet again!!
... At least the sun was shining, and it eases nice day!!
As I neared Gropello I came across this huge cemetery on the outskirts.
Then into the busy town, where the church - St Georges, the patron saint of England
they even had a copy of the Turin shroud in one of the chapels there!
It was a busy little town, where I had a drink and chocolate brioche watching the world go by... Lots of bikes being ridden by old to young!
Then off again across more fields, the rice fields now starting to dwindle and then I came onto the banks of the River Ticino, which I was to follow for 10 kms into Pavia
- a rather warm day, walking along the sheltered banks, in fact at times very hot - but I did manage a stop at a restaurant for ice cream and shade!!
I arrived at my destination the youth hostel in St Maria del Betlem, Pavia shortly after 3 30 pm...
And quickly went out for a haircut... The barber shop was packed, it being the day before a holiday, so I had to wait almost two hours... But it was worth it for a cool head!!
I had a final meal out with Juliano later, as he was headed off in the morning:
and I was to remain for a 'day off'!! - I was ready for it, so went out myself later for a few beers!!, and slept soundly!!
