Fishing with the Bears

I’ve now arrived back in the ‘civilisation’ of Anchorage and survived another exciting week, taking the sunshine with me as I’ve continued around Alaska..

I started the week with a cruise down Prince William Sound, and along the sides of icefields , with icebergs floating in the water alongside us..

Climbed up alongside a glacier, to overlook one of the biggest icefields in America

Took another wildlife cruise, through Fiords teeming with lots of different sea animals, including seals, puffins, sea lions, porpoises swimming alongside, and a brief glance of a Minke whale ,as well as distant views of more mountains, glaciers and icefields

Finishing with a spectacular float plane trip, flying onto a remote lake, transferring to a small boat, and getting close to bears feeding on the salmon that had come back in from the open sea to lay their eggs.. there were single bears, groups, including a mother bear and two cubs – all of whom were fishing to feed and survive the winter, paying no attention to ‘Jotown’ in the boat nearby..

and finally returning to Anchorage, where I’m now in a ‘backpackers’ Hostel (cheap, but clean !), trying to catch up on what I’ve done, having copied other people’s photographs, bought a new camera…slept and bathed !

Unfortunately the departing group have taken the sunshine with them, so I may tell you more than I thought I would have time to do !

All in all, a very different trip, with vast distances covered, sights seen, and adventure’s had… all will be revealed (in time)
