Into the ‘Windy City’, in a Gentle Breeze!

I had a great start to the day, at the Pine Grove Restaurant http://pinegroverestaurant.com/home.html next door to the Hotel, for my ‘complimentary ‘ breakfast, where there was a great waitress, typically as you would see on the films, shouting, welcoming and looking after everyone all at the the same time, including Jotown, who she insisted should sample the fresh pancakes with Maple syrup..well worth a $ tip !

Then I got the shuttle bus back to O’Hare airport, and then the blue train into Chicago City itself.. it was a lot further than I expected, although I eventually made it after the huge queue at the airport station – it turned out there was a music festival over the weekend, so hordes of ‘youngsters’ were coming into the City !http://www.lollapalooza.com/ so I was glad I wasn’t staying in the city – I had tried to get in a Hostel, imagine that…it would have been ‘interesting’ ,to say the least !

IMG_2451I arrived in the centre of the city http://www.explorechicago.org/city/en.html not really sure of where to go, or what to see, apart from the ‘Magnificent Mile’, which I soon found out to be, Michigan Avenue….IMG_2458So, I have loads of pictures of big skyscrapers challenging the skyline, and all with varying differences, making them stand out from each other ..

IMG_2475I wandered down to Michigan Avenue, and understood how it got it’s name, the giant buildings stretching as far as the eye could see, where to look and what to do ? I just kept walking along, down to the ‘Museum Quarter’, and across the bridge, IMG_2502and to the shores of Lake Michigan, a great inland sea, with yachts sailing on it , IMG_2506looking across the Lake and back to the city’s great buildings …and the sun ? – It was scorching,up to around 95F… (may be a bit different where I am tomorrow !) ,but the famous wind was nowhere to be felt,in fact it needed it – just a gentle breeze off the Lake, hardly cooling anything !

IMG_2577I meandered back across the city, and finishing with the biggest ( I think?) then made my way back to the Hotel, for dinner and ready for tomorrows travels…

See you in Alaska !

Goodnight !
