I set off from the Washington Plaza just after 8-30 a.m. and carrying all my gear on front and back wandered down the hot road to the subway, and made my way out to Ronald Regan airport http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ronald_Reagan_Washington_National_Airport and checked my holdall in, then wandered around the terminal for a while, looking at what was available (but, not buying, as usual!), and then made my way to the gates, by which time a huge queue had formed to get through security, and I only just made it to the gate as they were loading everyone on…Ooops !, and then I was right at the back of the plane, so was almost last off the plane, as we landed at O'Hare airport, Chicago http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/O%27Hare_International_Airport , a very large and busy airport.
I got my holdall, and waded around to the ‘shuttle bus’ area, where I got the bus to my Hotel – Best Western at O’Hare http://bestwesternillinois.com/hotels/best-western-at-ohare/ – not the newest, or fanciest Hotel…but reasonable enough (and cheap!)
As the day had worn on, I decided not to immediately go into Chicago, but to go to a nearby bar for dinner, and a few beers ! So, early evening I was in a genuine American Sports Bar – Shoeless Joe’s !, http://www.shoelessjoesrosemont.com/shoelessjoe.html – appropriately called, where I had dinner a few glasses of some local, and refreshing ale, and back for an early’ish night !
