Friday 8th April 16.
I was tempted to have a 'lie in' this morning... However a look at tomorrow's forecast for Calais (rain) made me put a spurt on.
I had my ready-made porridge, and by 0730 was out of the accommodation, and in a taxi to take me to the Port (via Tescos for supplies of plasters!!).
As the taxi driver dropped me at the port, he gave a good tip: "buy a day return... Cheaper than a single" - and it was: £20 rather than the 'no Pilgrim discount' P&O price of £30...
I got on the 0925 sailing and waved Goodbye to good old Blighty, and the white cliffs of Dover!
As I disembarked, I noticed the name of the ship, maybe a sign..??
And as I reached the footpath immediately outside the Port area, another sign,
only this time I was going a different way to the 'official route'. Rather than spending 2 days walking along the coast, and heading inland... I was going directly inland, and had a pleasant 14 kms walk along the canals, and green routes to my first night stop in France - Guines
Campsite aka Bien Assise, who welcome Pilgrims, and rented me a full lodge for the princely sum of €15 - thank you !!
I showered, got some washing done, and relaxed in the sunshine...
I hope the rest of France is similar !!
Bonne Nuit !!
Lovely along the canals I'm sure. Hopefully you won't have too much rain. So how's your french? As good as your Spanish? Haha! How is your shin?
