I should have remembered the old saying...
A nice sunny day had been forecast, and so the shorts were on, a nice big breakfast in a Mme Gevas dining room - far too much to eat, but I made a good dent in it all!!
As I bade farewell at 830 am, there were a few spots of rain... It won't last I understood my host to say...
So I set off, firstly in the wrong direction for 10 minutes, and the rain got heavier... so the Poncho was out, as I walked alongside the D341 - my hosts suggestion for an 'easy' route to my nights stop which she'd arranged!!
The road was intermittently busy, although when the big trucks came by, even though they gave good space for me, I was still swept in spray !!
I kept along the road through differing villages all day - at least there were plenty of shops so I was able to get food as I walked!
It being one continuous road, I was sorely tempted by the differing buses that traversed it!! - especially as I saw another hill stretching upwards in front of me!!
Eventually the rain stopped in the early afternoon, and still I walked on, and on!
Finally I reached the point when I could turn off the road - Estree Gauchy, and once again I was walking quiet back roads,
only another 4 kms to go... to Villers Chatel, my nights stop in proper pilgrim accommodation... Le Chateaux; this is more like it I thought !!
I was recognised and greeted by the owner Monsieur de Franssu, who showed me round to his wife Madame de Franssu - a lovely couple of ardent pilgrims, who have been on many pilgrimages together.
I was given tea and cake, shown to my room, and later joined them for a lovely dinner and conversation to accompany it!!
Another tough 28 kms, I've now done 215 kms in 9 days... I was ready for a good sleep!!
It is very beautiful!
