I was soon out of Guines and heading through the countryside
I thought I was doing well until I came across this sign and wondered which way to go?!
All was revealed later as I came across the explanation!
After that it was easy; the signposting was good and I was able to follow the route from my guide book. I had nothing else to worry about, apart from the wind and the rain, and getting my poncho to fit over my rucksack as well: an interesting challenge!!
I trudged through the countryside, with intermittent rain, and a cold Wind in my face; however as the morning wore on it brightened up and I made good time, towards my not-too-distant destination for today: Licques.
Shortly after 12, I could see it in the distance with the great Abbey standing out from the surrounding countryside. As I arrived in the village I visited the big church which, no doubt, is a shadow of its former self - there's not even mass here this weekend!
I took a look inside and could only imagine it's former grandeur from times in the past..
I continued through the village and up to my destination for the night pommiers a trios pays - another chalet on a campsite (pricey at €25!!). Still, I had a TV, very hot shower and an afternoons rest
- great timing though, as the rain bounced down all afternoon- I'm being well looked after!
The campsite owners wife is the chef, so hopefully some nice home cooking tonight...
I wonder what tomorrow will bring?
