Tuesday 12th April

I was up at 615 ready for mass at 645, looking out of my bedroom window at great views within the monastery..

I went to the chapel to find 4 differing masses all taking place at the same time, each priest speaking in hushed whispers, it was almost coordinated! I'd never been somewhere this was happening before, presumably each priest having to say the mass individually?

I returned to my room, ready for breakfast, I was already hungry... Breakfast was bread and butter... And tea!!
To say I was disappointed was an understatement!!

So I packed my gear and left ..hoping to find somewhere to eat!!
It took an hour and a half walking, before I found a bar, who only had... Toasted bread and butter!! (and tea and juice) still it kept me going, and showed me what's it's like to be hungry... All you think of is... food!

I made it into Theuronne by 1130, and was straight into the supermarket for food!!

I'd already completed one days walk from the guide, and then set off on a second day's walking (after 3 bananas!!)
I continued walking in hot sunshine, passing through Liettres (where the French claim cricket!!) and walked along cricket avenue!!

Across the country on an old railway line ( like the Sett Valley trail at home , but more picturesque !)

I continued along in the hot afternoon sunshine until I eventually arrived at the church in Amettes,

another different Holy door, and footsteps all around the church talking of the 'Fathers mercy', really impressive, and with a reliquary of a local Saint St Benoit!!

So, now it'll be easy to find Rue Eglise won't it??... Hardly, but 29 minutes later I was in the farmhouse of Madame Gevas, with a cold beer in my hand - delightful welcome!!

Another nice dinner, and now I retired to bed ....full!!

  1. The French must not eat much and thats why they are thin? So far the walking looks pretty flat.
