Thursday 7th April 16.
I was up early Thursday morning, ready to start on the Via Francigena.
Breakfasted, I was outside Canterbury Cathedral at 8 am, ready for a big days walk (spiritually and physically!)
Soon I was on the Pilgrims way, out of the city
and into the cold (but dry) morning. I found the route well way-marked, and was soon ready for my 'pilgrims second breakfast at 10 am!!
Continuing along the route: up and down, crossing the Kentish countryside, not actually seeing much civilisation, although I could hear the roar of the busy roads nearby!
By 1230 I was in Shepherdswell, a full section of my route done already!!
I managed to find a shop for some food...
Then dodging rain and hail showers I continued on towards Dover... Only another 9 miles !!
As I crossed the countryside, I found a majestic house - with its very own church - open to view !!
Quite handy really as I dodged more showers whilst there...
I continued along the old Roman road, very muddy... and a real trudge, passing Dover castle, up on the headland as I spied the English Channel, and today's end!!
Arriving in Dover just after 6 pm I was grateful for food, a shower and a comfy bed ... 'Only' 32 kms walked today!!
Now... For France !!
So are you crossing by boat or walking on water? LOL!
