Friday 13th May - The mountains are playing hide and seek!!

I awoke in the parish refuge in Lausanne to the sound of really heavy rain, already everyone had decided to stay put for the day, visit central Lausanne, and continue tomorrow...
Firstly though, a washing machine was available, and so I filled it with all my clothes (and everyone else's!) and did a load, which would easily dry in the hot atmosphere beneath the church!!

Then after breakfast at the local cafe (things are looking up, there's even cafes now!) we all got the bus into central Lausanne, first stop the Cathedral, with magnificent stained glass windows... And even a pilgrim chapel where I could stamp my credential!!

Outside there were great views over the wet city, lake and mountains in the distance (hidden in cloud)

Then we wandered down through the city, seeing differing sights, and even managing to get new insoles for my boots, as the others are worn out!!

We had lunch and then walked down to the lake shore, although the weather had improved slightly the mountains were still hiding away...

We all returned to the church for an early dinner and sleep... Hopefully tomorrow will bring better weather... We may even see the great high mountains!!

I heard from Simon late on, he's now in Aosta, Italy.... Having crossed the Alps through the rail tunnel as the Avalanche risk and snow prevented him getting over the pass... Everyone now needs to pray that the conditions improve so I can climb over in safety!!!
