A lovely blue sky greeted me in St Maurice, ready for the day ahead!!
It was a public holiday for Pentecost, but the butty shop was open, so I managed to get food for the day and we set off for the rising hills... There was still my 3 Australian friends with me Peter, Sandy & Jenny...
As I looked to the hills a marvellous sight was viewed... The mountains, ready to welcome us!
We travelled across forest tracks, across fields and open land, a quite pleasant day for a walk, with a bit of wildlife thrown in:
although our climbing had started, but only gently!!
We even managed a late morning coffee stop as we travelled through a small village, and later passing the Pisse Vauche waterfalls on the hillsides above us:
It was another hot day, so the town of Vauyaz was a welcome spot for a shady, wind free lunch area!!
We continued on similar tracks before arriving in Martigny our days destination:
The others got a bed in a parish room, but I had to go to the dormitory in the campsite, where I again met Thomas a German pilgrim I'd seen in St Maurice that day...
Another nice place to stop, all the time still nearer to the 'big hills', with its own castle above and lots of Roman remains dotted around the town, now being excavated!!
