My nighttime views from the bedroom window:
I had a nice leisurely start to the day, as I knew I didn't have too far to go..
So I got up at 7, had a couple of cups of tea, then downstairs to the chapel where I made up the 4 (including the Priest) for morning prayers - always interesting to know that I am becoming proficient in French!! (and the Priest pointed the way!!)
After that, I returned to my flat, had another cup of tea, and managed a few words with my eldest son... Who's going out to do his duty in 'warmer climes' for 6months - Good luck, come home safe... And WOFTY!!
As I promised him, I then went to mass at 9 in the Cathedral opposite:
Was wished 'Bonne route' by the priest and members of the congregation, before going outside to.... Rain again!!
Could I chance no rain gear for a while? - well I managed to get food and a drink, before I had to don all the gear - Poncho, gaiters... And shorts!!
Then off through the outskirts of Langres, initially finding the track easily, however I soon lost it, and needed my old mate 'Google' to get me back on track!!
I soon left the city behind, following minor roads southwards... And managing a bite to eat on the way!!
The rain stopped, the sun almost came out, so off came the Poncho, and I continued striding along!
By early afternoon I was having lunch in Grenant, which had a church with statues in that were brightly painted, just like at home!!
... Although the 'stretcher' at the ready seemed a bit macabre!!
There was also a Chateau busily being made ready for the season:
I was sat on some steps in the afternoon sunshine, as a forester stopped, engaging me in conversation... It turned out he'd done the Camino from Le Puy to Santiago de Compostela, and was doing another one from Verzelay (where I was 10 days ago) to SJPP in June... Small world, made smaller by both our thoughts and reflections!!
He wished me Buon Camino and off he went.
I continued my route on the very quiet road, up through an old railway tunnel into the next valley
and to a famous pilgrim Gite of Les Archots!!
I've got a great big room, and as I was so early I've been able to wash all my dirty walking gear, and peg them out on the line!!
Dinner is promised for 730... And an early night, ready for a bigger day tomorrow!!
(forecast... Sunny and warm!!)
It's nice to have an easy day now and then, and I've still food for the journey (I'm learning !!)
