Tuesday 10th May - Climbing up... Ready to go down!

Francis dropped me in Pontarlier to continue my walk

(and post some things home!), and I set off in lovely warm sunshine, alongside the railway track that he had described to me...

sadly this didn't continue as heavy rain poured down, as the thunder and lightning cracked all around me! I was covered up, and squelched my way along... On a route I thought was straightforward... But wasn't!! I ended up following the wrong track for some time, realised and had to backtrack... However the benefit was that I found a rail and shed where I sheltered for lunch!!

Back on the right path, I started following the old railway line up and up towards the mountains and the end of France! A wayside cross was quite unusual

On and on I continued, at least the rain had stopped, although my boots were sodden, soon being alongside a new 'sightseeing' railway, but it was tough walking over the newly laid stone...

passing a roadside marker for 1,000 metres altitude... although I knew that in the next couple of days I would have to drop to sea level, and start all over again!!

I finished on the railway, and walked from Hospitaux neufs to Jougne, the last big village in France, and my days destination!!

As I got there I bumped into a 'gang' of the young pilgrims I've seen before , the crowd now swelled to five (+me =6) they were staying in the empty Presbytery, whilst I had a bit more luxury, and a cooked meal (but lots of road noise!)

So, tomorrow I shall be in another country... I'll say Au Revoir...
